What is an Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC)?

Modified on Mon, 20 Oct at 2:50 PM

An Alarm Receiving Centre, or ARC, is a professional 24/7 monitoring centre that receives and handles alarms from security and care systems like Independent Living.

ARCs operate under strict European standards, specifically EN 50518, which defines the requirements for security, redundancy, and reliability in alarm monitoring. This certification ensures that the centre can respond quickly and safely to all types of alarms. Only a few monitoring centres in Norway hold this certification. It is the same standard that insurance companies refer to when they require that a system be “insurance approved”.

When an alarm is received, the ARC follows a predefined response procedure - contacting relatives, emergency services, or dispatching a security guard if needed.
